DIY Downton – Create a 1920’s headband

Our hair stylist Tara Watts and I, decided on a glamorous headband to complete Rebecca’s 1920’s look.

The headband was really simple to make. I started with a 200cm x 25cm piece of birdcage veiling in dove grey. I purchased the veiling through Britex Fabrics in San Francisco. I purchased it on a trip there but never fear, they sell online as well.

The veiling was folded in half, end-to-end (now 100cm in length). This type of netting has finished edges so it’s ideal for a bridal headpiece.

25cm from the raw end of the veiling, I gathered it and tied it off with thread.

A sequined brooch from Forever 21 was stitched on top of the gathering.

After her hair was styled, the veil was tied over the bride’s hair with the brooch and the knot fastened above one of her ears. Tara secured the headband with pins.
