Dueling cameras at Paul Brandt

Last night I had the special privilege of being part of the video team at the Paul Brandt concert in Calgary. I love the fact that the profits from the “Just as I Am” tour are going to support local charities and theBuild it Forward Foundation in Haiti. Paul is a great example of how to live simply so you can give generously.

The urge to shoot a few stills overcame me though and when I had a chance to grab a few shots, I did (don’t tell the video director). I also enjoyed hanging out with my pal Royce (who shared his skittles).

The romantic in me couldn’t help but enjoy hearing the audience sing along to “I Do”.

I’ve seen the storm clouds in your past
But rest assured ‘cause you are safe
at home at last
I rescued you, you rescued me
And we’re right where we should be
when we’re together

I know the questions in your mind
But go ahead and ask me one more time
You’ll find the answer’s still the same
It won’t change from day to day
for worse or better

Will I promise to be your best friend
And am I here until the end
Can I be sure I have been waiting for you
And did I say my love is true
Baby I will, I am, I can, I have, I do

I know the time will disappear
But this love we’re building on will always be here
No way that this is sinking sand
On this solid rock we’ll stand forever

Will I promise to be your best friend
And am I here until the end
Can I be sure I have been waiting for you
And did I say my love is true
Baby I will, I am, I can, I have, I do

Baby I will, I am, I can, I have
Oh, I will, I am, I can, I have
Baby I will, I am, I can, I have, I do

On Sunday I had the Royal Pleasure of photographing the Royal Tea Baby Shower, hosted by the Fairmont Palliser in honour of the upcoming birth of the royal baby. What a wonderful afternoon of tea, scones, ballet, music and Calgary’s millinery finest.

My friends at Lynn Fletcher Weddings did a beautiful job on the design and the details for the tea. Creative Weddings provided the lovely, floral teacups.

What are you doing this long weekend? I’m excited to bring my “Play Station” to the Royal Tea Baby Shower at the Fairmont Palliser on Sunday. This is such a cool idea and I love that the gifts and proceeds will support Ronald McDonald House.

Here we are at Vintage Wedding Showcase but come Sunday, we’ll be royal indeed. It’s not everyday we have Chapel Hats and Moet in the booth.

If you follow my blog on a regular basis, you know that I’m part of an amazing little collective called A Spoonful of Vintage. Back in April, we hosted Vintage Wedding Showcase. Among other things, the showcase demonstrated how to mix vintage and modern fashions beautifully. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a photo shoot while I had all of these gorgeous gowns and accessories in one place. This photo shoot was basically a girly-girl’s dream and just in time for spring.

Be sure to scroll to the end and see all of amazing vendors whose fingerprints are all over this.

A friend sent over this link about the Calgary Herald’s contest for favourite wedding photos. I was thinking back about some of my favourite candid moments from 2012 and this one immediately came to mind. One of my favourite parts of Katherine & Tyler’sHeritage Park wedding was photographing them on the midway. I love how happy and carefree the photos look. But have you ever ridden the Caterpillar at Heritage Park? That thing is rough and it was like taking photos while riding a bronco. I could not stop laughing. It was so worth it!

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a sixpence in your shoe. If you have ever wondered where the Penny in Your Shoe tradition came from, check it out.

As we were preparing for Vintage Wedding Showcase, we decided to add a penny to our bridal name tags for that touch of nostalgia (and a little luck)!

Thanks to Megan, for hand-crafting each name tag worn at the event.

Wow, it’s been an amazing week! I’m part of a little, powerhouse collective called A Spoonful of Vintage and on Sunday we hosted Vintage Wedding Showcase. I hope you had a chance to stop by for some vintage inspiration. I had my “Play Station” set up vintage-style and and may I say, there are some crazy, fun brides out there. It was a blast!

The event would not have been such a success without our team of incredible volunteers and supporters. A few of them popped into my “Play Station” at the event and I want to give them a big THANK YOU!!!

Say hello to our handsome “Grooms”, Chuck and Jonathan, who escorted our models down the white carpet dressed in tuxes from Cameo & Cufflinks. Well done gents!

If you didn’t have a chance to stop by Vintage Wedding Showcase you’re in luck. Today you can feast your eyes on the winning tabletop from Vintage Decor Challenge. Six of Calgary’s top wedding planners selected a film or show category with a strong vintage feel and interpreted that into a table top. The guests of Vintage Showcase selected the winner and they chose “Mad Men” by Sharon Auld of Naturally Chic. Sharon’s table epitomized the 1960s with shades of tangerine and olive, complimented by wood tones. Don and Betty give their stamp of approval Sharon. Well done! Sharon is a talented wedding planner based out of Canmore and specializing in eco-chic, outdoor and adventure weddings.

Tomorrow morning, head over to the ‘A Spoonful of Vintage’ blog for a peek at the amazing contenders – The Great Gatsby, The Wizard of Oz, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Casablanca and Downton Abbey.

Yesterday was truly an outstanding day in Calgary! Did you catch Vintage Wedding Showcase? I’m so proud of our little collective and grateful for our amazing sponsors (and a host of fabulous volunteers). More to come on this inaugural event but for now, see the inside scoop here.

That remarkable piece of sculpture (which is also delicious I’m sure), is from my friends at Cakeworks. Florals by the talented Sarah Mayerson.
