Back in June, I shot the family photos of my dear friends the Dukes in Flower Mound, Texas. We hadn’t done photos since the arrival of little Tate so it was way overdue. It’s so much fun to capture families as they grown and change over time. Can’t wait for next time. Check out their sneak peek here.

Here’s a snippet from our day at the beach with Nicole & David. Stay tuned for more…

When you think of wedding mishaps, you usually think of freak snowstorms, missing flowers or open-mic-gone-wrong but you don’t usually think of the bride being very ill. Unfortunately, this was the case for Mel on her wedding day and as a result, these two have very few wedding photos. Well on a perfect Calgary evening back in June, we made it right. What a treat it was to finally take these photos. Enjoy and don’t forget the slide show at the end!

I was elated when Sandra and Getulio asked me to do another portrait session after their wedding. On their actual wedding day, we didn’t have much of a chance to do any outdoor portraits due to an April snowstorm that hit Calgary. For their after wedding session, we headed out to Nose Hill Park during “the golden hour” and got some amazing shots. Don’t let the warm glow in the photos fool you, it was FREEZING that evening, but they were troopers. Check out their sneak peek here and their full wedding post here. Enjoy!

Here’s a little something from a recent trip to Dallas. Check back soon for more family fun…

It was lovely to meet Kristy and Nolan when we did their e-session at Big Hill Springs Provincial Park. When we discussed personalizing their shoot, Kristy told me that they love to travel and that Nolan is a football coach. What fun we had incorporating these elements into their shoot and making it theirs. Check out their sneak peek here and don’t forget the slide show at the end.

Check back soon for many delicious details…

Last week I had the pleasure of shooting Kristy & Nolan’s engagement shoot at Big Hill Springs Provincial Park. More to come soon…

Meet the Banks family. I did a photo shoot for them recently as a gift for their parent’s anniversary and we had a blast shooting in and around Prince’s Island. You may recognize this first photo. It’s their version on the infamous Abbey Road cover photo. Don’t forget to check out the slide show at the end.

Just a little something from a session last night.

Sandra and Getulio had an intimate, family wedding back on April 24th, complete with an April snowstorm. Sandra later told me that the snow didn’t bother her a bit. It was lovely to be included in your happy day. See their sneak peek here.

It’s no secret that I “appreciate vintage” and that various vintage pieces are frequently featured on my blog. The dress pictured below was a huge hit and was even featured on The Bride’s Cafe last year. Brides often ask me about my vintage haunts and I’m the first to say that one of my local favourites is Cat’s Eye Vintage. They kindly allowed me to snap a few photos in their amazing store, located in the old Alberta Boot Company building at # 614 10th Avenue SW, Calgary 403-640-4090. If you’re looking for a wedding dress that’s a little offbeat and has a sense of history, you should definitely check them out. See them on facebook here or email them at catseyevintage@telus.net

When couples hire Tara Whittaker Photography, they get an extra special treat that they didn’t even plan on. They get my assistant, Carol (around here she’s called ‘Legs’). Legs is an invaluable addition to the TWP team for many reasons. She is my second shooter, she has an amazing eye for detail during shoots, she makes couples feel right at home and perfectly at ease, she carries camera equipment like nobody’s business and she can run my “Play Station” with one hand behind her back. She’s the icing on the cake.
